A – Job Summary 

We are seeking a System Engineer/Security Specialist to be responsible for protecting our school’s computer systems and networks from cyber threats. The System Engineer/Security Specialist will be responsible for the installation, monitoring, maintenance, and support of the school’s security measures, in addition to providing technical guidance and direction to the IT team. 

The System Engineer/Security Specialist should have strong knowledge of defensive Cybersecurity in a large environment and a good working knowledge of Tenable and Nessus. The successful candidate must also have a good working knowledge of Linux and Windows operating systems, be proficient in scripting in both Linux and Windows, and have experience with Active Directory.

B – Essential duties and responsibilities 

• Install, configure, and maintain security measures to protect our school’s computer systems and networks from cyber threats.

• Monitor and maintain the school’s security systems such as Tenable and Nessus.

• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to computer systems and networks.

• Configure and maintain network hardware such as routers, switches, and wireless access points.

• Manage user accounts and ensure that users have proper access to the systems and networks.

• Ensure the security of the school’s computer systems and networks.

• Monitor, maintain, and configure virtualized environments using Linux and Windows operating systems.

• Perform routine maintenance and software upgrades.

• Create and maintain detailed documentation of the security systems and networks.

• Respond to user inquiries and requests for technical support.

• Provide technical guidance and direction to the IT team.

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field. 

• 5+ years of experience working with computer systems and networks. 

• Knowledge of Cybersecurity and a good working knowledge of Tenable. 

• Proficiency with Linux and Windows operating systems. 

• Proficiency in scripting in both Linux and Windows. 

• Experience with Active Directory. 

• Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills. 

• Ability to work independently and as part of a team. 

• Highly organized and detail-oriented. 

• Excellent English communication and customer service skills.
