A – Job summary 

The Systems Engineer/Security Specialist (SESS) is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the IT infrastructure and the school’s security stance and platforms.  Provide supervision and guidance for junior technical staff. The SESS must have a good understanding of the Cybersecurity and network operations.  Reports to IT Director.

B – Essential duties and responsibilities 

The Systems Engineering responsibilities will include:

1. Maximizes network performance through in-depth monitoring; troubleshoot network problems and outages; schedule upgrades; collaborating with network vendor architects on network optimization.
2. Secure network system by establishing and enforcing policies; define and monitoring access.
3. Report network operational status by gathering, and prioritizing information; manage IT projects.
4. Act as technical liaison between school and any vendor’s technical sales or support team

The Cyber Security duties of the Systems Engineer/Security Specialist include:

1. Monitor our cyber security platform – Tenable.io
2. Manage our patch management routine for Linux and Windows
3. Monitor and review our Log Server
4. Manage and maintain our firewall rule set
5. Manage and maintain our VPN
6. Security and maintenance of custom applications and their environments will be the responsibility of the SESS.
7. Support the school as we slowly move toward a co-location or cloud-based hosting model.

Network Engineering Skills:

• Expertise in all facets of Network and System Administration
• Superior Skill with large-scale networking
• Superior Skill with very large WiFi environments
• Superior Skill with all Facets of VMWare 5.5+
• Excellent Skill with Linux Servers (CentOS and Ubuntu LTS range)
• Excellent Understanding of AD/LDAP and their attributes
• Excellent Understanding of Radius and 802.1X, NAC and Triple-A hardware and software 
• Excellent Understanding of Nagios, Zabbix or similar
• Excellent Understanding of modern firewall and Content Filters - Untangle and PFsense a plus
• Excellent Understanding of Backup and recovery methodologies - Veeam or Acronis Experience preferred
• Good understanding of networked audio content and paging delivery (QSC/Dante experience a plus)
• Good skill with a very large print environment (CUPs and PaperCut management software experience a plus)

• Database Design (MS SQL, MySQL/MariaDB, Postgres, Oracle)

Qualifications:

• 4+ years of verifiable professional experience in a similar role
• Numerous current and verifiable certifications
